Networking Tips and Tricks

Networking is an important part of landing that dream job. In fact more than half of people who land a job did so by either referral or networking with people at the firm. Networking is not only advantageous in finding the right job but also learning what job is right for you.

Networking can be nerve racking or uncomfortable for many students. If you fall into this category, don’t sweat it, BC is here to help. The key to improving like anything else is practice. Come to our events listed on our events page and start practicing today!

Below are some tips you may find useful when beginning to network with professionals:

• Introduce yourself and shake their hand
• Smile! It can go a long way
• Make good eye contact and have good posture to show attention when the person is speaking
• Dress professionally
• Ask smart, well thought out questions (don’t ask questions you could find yourself by a simple google search)
• Ask questions specific to the person whom you are talking to (ask about their role, their history, etc.)
• Don’t interrupt when the person is talking
• Wait your turn to ask questions at a job fair or information session
• Thank the person whom you talked to before leaving
• Get a business card so you can follow up with the person
